Hello friends of Jamaica!

I’m Joel, and I’m excited to introduce myself as the new President of Friends of Jamaica (FOJ). From 2018 to 2020, I served as a Peace Corps Jamaica Volunteer in the parish of St. Thomas, working in the agriculture sector alongside smallholder farmers and community groups.

Living and working in Jamaica wasn’t just about volunteering – it was about learning from communities that are full of resilience, creativity, and strength. These experiences shaped who I am today, and they inspire me every day to continue supporting Jamaica and its people through FOJ.

During my time on the island, I witnessed firsthand how much we all have to offer one another, no matter where we come from. There’s a Jamaican proverb, “One one coco full basket,” which teaches us that success doesn’t happen overnight- it’s achieved through small, consistent steps over time.

As we approach the end of the year, I invite you to take one of those small, meaningful steps with us. Your contribution, no matter the size, can help fill the basket and ensure that community-driven efforts across Jamaica continue to grow and thrive.
