Hurricane Melissa Relief Fund

Help Jamaica Recover and Rebuild

Hurricane Melissa has left communities across Jamaica reeling — homes damaged, crops destroyed, families displaced. Friends of Jamaica is raising funds to provide emergency relief and help people rebuild their lives.

Your gift will go directly toward essentials like food, clean water, and shelter, and toward long-term recovery in the hardest-hit areas. Every bit of support matters.

Unlike many large-scale relief efforts, Friends of Jamaica partners directly with local, community-based organizations, farmers, educators, and grassroots leaders across the island. We ensure that funds go straight into the hands of those doing the work — the people who know their communities best.

Friends of Jamaica is proud to be an affiliate of the National Peace Corps Association, carrying forward the Peace Corps spirit of service, integrity, and partnership. When you give to FOJ, you can trust that your support reaches real people, doing real good, on the ground.

In the past year alone, FOJ has supported community-led projects across Jamaica — the same kind of trusted partnerships that your Hurricane Melissa donation will strengthen.

  • In 2024, FOJ awarded a grant to the Chesscot United Youth Services to provide the Ujama Football Club in East Portland with essential equipment such as shoes, socks, and balls. This helped keep a safe, positive space alive for youth in the community.

  • Following Hurricane Beryl, FOJ partnered with the United Way of Jamaica to provide relief funds to the Neif Mountain Evergreen Farmers Benevolent Society, helping smallholder farmers in St. Elizabeth purchase fertilizer and regenerate their land.

  • FOJ supported the Birch Wright Soap-Making Workshop, a hands-on initiative that empowered participants to learn new skills, strengthen community ties, and explore small business opportunities.

  • Through the Hayfield Accessibility Ramp Project, FOJ helped fund the construction of a 180-foot ramp at Hayfield Primary and Infant School in St. Thomas, improving access for students, teachers, and parents with mobility challenges.

These examples reflect the type of close, community-driven collaboration that defines Friends of Jamaica — and the same spirit that will guide our response to Hurricane Melissa.

“Wi likkle but wi tallawah.”
Together, we’ll help Jamaica stand strong again.
