Funding Guidelines

Friends of Jamaica (FOJ) provides grants to a variety of projects with educational, health, social, or environmental benefits for Jamaicans. Although the membership of  FOJ is comprised of former Peace Corps Volunteers who served in Jamaica, funding is not limited to Peace Corps projects and we encourage everyone with a suitable project to apply for funding. Please review the following requirements before completing your application.

Limitations

  • FOJ cannot make grants that promote political candidates, parties, or causes, nor to promote religious beliefs.
  • FOJ cannot make contributions directly to governmental entities, however, we will contribute to organizations that also receive funding from the government.
  • FOJ cannot provide funds for administrative costs. This means that all funds donated must go directly to the project or activity and may not be used for salaries, office supplies, etc.
  • FOJ cannot provide loans.
  • Any grant awarded by FOJ to a Peace Corps Volunteer is subject to review by Peace Corps Jamaica.

Application Guidelines

  • The Grant Application Form must be completed and signed. A hard copy of the Grant Application must be signed (original) and submitted to Friends of Jamaica at the address shown on the form.
  • To increase your chances of being awarded a grant describe exactly how the grant monies will be used.  Also, it is best to provide supporting information, such as cost estimates for equipment and supplies. FOJ encourages applicants to attach supplemental descriptions.
  • General terms and conditions of the grant are given on Page 2 of the Grant Application Form. Signing the Application Form means that the applicant agrees to the terms and conditions. Some specific terms and conditions may be added to certain grants. If any of the terms and conditions are a problem, these should be discussed with Friends of Jamaica or noted on the application.

In order to be considered for a grant, a candidate organization must complete a Grant Application Form. This is required so FOJ can establish how grant monies are being used, and to provide a means of tracking proper use of the funds. The grant application must be signed by the individual who will take responsibility for the project and ensure that FOJ grant monies will be used for stated purpose(s). We recommend that applicants review the before submitting a proposal.
